Reto Sigl Homepage gets RSS Feed
October 3rd 2005
With the growing popularity of the Internet, the amount
of Information Sharing on this electronic media has increased.
Keeping track of new information has become a challenge.
With that in mind, new Web browsers are introducing a
capability to keep better track of new information on the
Internet - it's called RSS (Really Simple Syndication).
RSS lets you add a Bookmark at a convenient place in
your Web browser, where you get a quick overview of
latest news of a homepage, without the need to browse there!
Isn't this cool?
Now - we are pretty early in the game. So far only the
Web browsers Mozilla Firefox and Opera offer RSS.
The upcoming Internet Explorer 7 (expected in 2006)
from Microsoft will also offer RSS.
If you have none of the above mentioned Web browsers,
you will have to use a cumbersome RSS News Reader.
If you are using Mozilla Firefox as your Web browser,
it is really easy: look for the orange RSS Feed indicator (
)
in the lower right corner of the window, and click on it.

Click on "Subscribe to 'Reto Sigl Homepage'..."

Name the Bookmark "Reto Sigl Homepage"
It is suggested that you create it in your
"Bookmarks Toolbar Folder" instead of your "Bookmarks"

What happened: you have now a "Live Bookmark" on
the Bookmark Toolbar, which constantly shows you the latest
Events of the "Reto Sigl Homepage".

You can easily click on this
"Live Bookmark" while visiting any other web page.
You will also notice, that other Web sites are also providing
RSS feeds already: CNN, Google News etc. Just look
for that orange
RSS Feed indicator (
) in the lower right
corner of your screen.
The nice thing is, the next generation of Web browsers will
indicate with a flashing indicator, when there is new content.
If you are the owner of a Web site that has regular updates
to events or news, click here to see how I added the RSS feed.
Have Fun!
